Whitelist, operators and bans
The Players page controls who can join and who has admin powers, in four tabs: Whitelist, Operators, Banned players and Banned IPs. The number in brackets is the entry count.
Changes apply now if the server is running, or at its next start.
Add a player
- Open Players in the MINECRAFT group.
- Click the tab you want.
- Type the player name in the Player name box.
- Click Add.
UUID (optional; Bedrock only) is for Bedrock players; leave it empty for Java players.
To remove someone, use the remove action next to their name.
The four lists
Whitelist
A whitelist makes your server private: only players on it can join.
- Add the names of your players on the Whitelist tab.
- Open Properties and turn on Whitelist.
- Turn on Enforce Whitelist if you also want to kick anyone not on the list when you enable it.
- Restart the server.
Operators
Operators (ops) can run admin commands, change gamemode, teleport and more, so add only people you fully trust. A permissions plugin such as LuckPerms gives finer control than full operator status. See Plugins.
Banned players
A banned player cannot join, even if whitelisted. Remove them from the list to unban.
Banned IPs
An IP ban blocks an address, so it also stops a banned player who switches account. Use it with care: other people can share an address.
Console equivalents
Everything on this page also works from the Console, without the slash.

Tips and common problems
- Spelling matters. A player who cannot join with the whitelist on may have a name that differs from their account.
- Whitelist is on but nothing happens. Check that Whitelist is on in Properties and the server was restarted.
- A player says they are whitelisted but cannot join. If Online Mode is off, names are verified differently; check Properties.
- Access for staff. To let a helper manage the server itself, not just the game, invite them under Users in Settings instead of making them an operator.
